Glass Etching With My Cricut and Armour Etch
Have you ever had one of those awesome days? I did yesterday. The children slept until 10:15 which is unheard of. My daughter was born with a club foot and yesterday was her check up and the doctor said that her foot is awesome. She needs to keep wearing her brace at night and when she is three no more braces!! Then I got home to this wonderful cake and pizza lunch. My niece and I celebrate our birthdays together every year and she picked out this cake and her and her mom brought it over. I had an appointment that I was suppose to got to early this morning. I was dreading getting up an 6 a.m. and that got canceled yesterday. My husband made steaks and baked potatoes on the grill. All in all, it was an awesome day.
I decided to try and do some glass etching. I bought a few glass items at the dollar store and also this glass dish on sale at Wal-Mart. I thought that I would start with this glass dish.
I found a design I wanted on the Wedding cartridge and cut it out on clear contact paper. I got a huge roll of it at Wal-Mart for $5.99.
I pealed off the contact paper and put it on the dish where I wanted.
I used Armour Etch next. I just took an old small paint brush and brushed it on. I did it outside on the patio though because the smell is awful and I did not want any one, especially the kids breathing the fumes in.
This is only my second time using Armour Etch. I got the large bottle with a 50% off coupon at Michael’s. I think that I did not get it on as thick as I was suppose to. Next time I will really put it on thick. This is what I ended up with. I still think it turned out nice. When I have more time I am going to add the word Family to the other side with all of our names. I think that it would be a nice center piece.

Happy Birthday!
Wonderful happy cake too to go with it!
Love the Glass Etching, it is very nice.
I hope you show it again when you get all the names on it.
My son had the same problem with his foot.
Yeah for you.
God is an awesome God and gave your daughter the very best mommy.
Blessings to you,

Beth,
Very nice job on the glass. The etching creme did look a little thin, but the glass still came out looking great.
We just launched an online glass etching store and feature etchall etching products. You may want to try some of the etchall etching creme next time. I think you’ll find it thicker and a little easier to apply. The big advantage is that the etchall creme is reusable. Apply it to the glass, wait about 15 minutes, and then scoop it back into the bottle. This way you really get the value out of the bottle, but feel free to put it on nice & thick.
We’re looking for people doing glass etching. We want to find out what questions you & others have. This way we can develop training and tips to help. Feel free to stop by the site and leave a question in the contact section. We would really appreciate your input and feedback.
Thanks, Gary
Beth, first of all, Happy Belated Birthday. I love the glass etching that you did. This is something that I never thought of doing with my Cricut. I will have to get some etching creme and try it myself. Thanks for the idea.
GREAT job on your etching!!!!! Looks AWESOME…..so crisp!!!
I hope your birthday was a great one! That cake looks so yummy! I love the etching , I hope one day I have the courage to try something like this.
My 1st born had a very mild case of club foot and had to wear a cast right up to below her knee from 6-12mts. It didn’t slow her crawling down a bit. Congrats on your daughters checkup, that’s awsome!
I was wondering if anybody knew (maybe gary) if you can do this on the bottom of a pyrex dish. (the same side that willtouch the food.) I use armor etch. I have done the outside with people names for wedding presents but I would also like to do it on the bottom of the pan. since there is no mirror imageing for lettering I can’t do their names. I love the possibilties my cricuit offer and the idea of using the contact paper. Thanks
Sorry, I don’t know about etching on the bottom of pyrex. If you have scal, you can flip your text or if you have a gypsy the text flips as well to do a mirror image.
What pressure and speed did you use on your cricut? Or even blade, because I am trying to do this right now and I can’t seem to get the contact paper to work, it keeps falling apart.
Hi, Thanks for stopping by my blog. I use the same settings that I use for the vinyl kiss cut. Pressure 2, blade depth of 6. The top layer cuts but leaves the paper backing.

I just tried the armour etch this weekend for a teacher gift. Your project turned out waaaay better than mine! I called myself putting a thick coat on but it turned out really splotchy. This was my second attempt at using this product, and both times were splotchy. I think I’ll give it another go, but this time I’m going to wash off the cream, but leave the stencil on, then wait for it to dry and put a second coat. Maybe two splotchy etches will equal one even one?
