Glitter Ornaments

You have to watch this Youtube video that shows how to make glitter balls.  I tried it today and LOVE it!

I used Mop & Glo instead of the Future as shown in the video.  It worked perfect.  I cut the names out in white vinyl on my cricut using Sure Cuts A lot.

Here are the pictures.  I got the ornaments at Michaels on sale 50% off.  I got these with a little bit of the pearl glaze on them and they still turned out very pretty.

    Hi.

LOVE your ornaments!! Would you mind sharing what font you used on them? It’s really perfect.

    Thanks!

  • admin:

    Hi,
Thank you for stopping by my blog. The font is HLF Goldsmith Script. I e-mailed it to you in case you did not have it.

  • Jeanne:

Beautiful!!! I was going to ask about the font also. Could I please get it from you? It’s hard to find a chunky script.

  • Teresa:

My son and I had a ball making those! I tried to go back and get some more, but Micheal’s was sold out! I love the font!

  • love them, I have to keep them in mind for next year!! Awesome

  • Pat:

I just saw this video on another site–these are fantastic! The white vinyl really makes a nice contrast.

  • Carol:

Fabulous idea. I’d also love the font for the script. Merry christmas to you and yours.

  • Sheeoni:

I had to look all over for the floor polish, but finally found it! Mine came out fairly nice and I used Stampendous glitter, but I bet using Martha’s glitter may have made a difference (seems to be a bit sparse in some areas). I adore the font you’ve used, may I also have it emailed over to me? Thanks so much!

  • Jennifer Larsen:

I LOVE your Christmas balls – I had no idea it would be so easy. Looks like I’m going to have to go to Michaels tomorrow for a last minute craft idea to do with the kids. I do have one question for you….I’m new to vinyl – I’ve bought about 20 rolls of it and have yet to try it out. I’m concered about how you were able to get the names on the balls without the vinyl bubbling or creasing up. What’s your secret? I love that font and will try to find it on line!

  • Rita:

Hello. Beautiful ornaments. I think I like yours more than the original.! I have the origianl cricut. Can I cut vinyl? I know everyone asked, but can i get the font too It’s gorgeous,! Thanks

  • Caroline:

Beautiful ornaments! I will have to remember this for next year.

  • Tammy Sofonia:

Love this so much been trying to find the font no luck could you send it to me also.

    Thank you.
    Tammy

  • Terry:

I agree with everyone’s comment. The balls are so very pretty and I too love the font! The white vinyl lettering really adds so much!!
Question I have… how small can letters be cut with the vinyl? As small as handwriting might be? (for scrapbooking…)
    Thanks!

  • admin:

In SCAL you can make the characters smaller but the smaller they get (handwriting size) the more delicate the cut. The delicate cuts you have to be very careful with since they are fragile and will tear. I have seen some but it takes a lot of patience. I have never had much luck with tiny cuts. I sized each name above to have about a 1 inch height not including the hanging Y or G Parts of the names.

  • I am a new cricuteer and your blog was the first I came upon, enjoying your creativity. Would be willing to share that font with me as well? Thanks, GinaS

  • Mendy W.:

Would this work with the plastic balls? It would be great for the student Christmas ornament, but we have to have something that won’t break or it will never make it home.

  • MyCricut:

hi, sorry, I am not sure about plastic, you could try and see how it works.

  • TINA:

Thank you so much for sharing this technique. I can’t wait to try this. I have etched names on these glass balls, filled them with a little sand so they will stand upright and then placed them on our Christmas Dinner table instead of name tags. If you still have this font available, would you please send it to me. Thanks for sharing all of your creativity.

  • Andrea6760:

Thank you so much for sharing such a great idea. Would I also be able to get the font that you used? I have SCAL and would love to make some of these for the holidays.

Got some plastic clear Ornaments at Michaels and going to see if they do OK with this Technique. HOPE SO!! Then if they fall off the tree they won’t break. Will let you know how they turn out. THANKS for sharing. You are so talented!! Sarah

I found your page while looking for directions on making word books. I have found so many things on your site to keep me busy doing for the entire Christmas season. :) I am interested in the beautiful font you are sharing. Please and Thank you very much.

  • Alison:

I may have a stupid question but I will ask it anyway. Since this is done with a floor finish is it going to last from year to year, or will the glitter eventually start coming off or discolor??

  • Pat Wimbush:

I love the ornaments. They are beautiful. I am going to try to make some next week. If you don’t mind, would you please share the font with me also.

    Thank you so much.

I really enjoyed the video and would like to have the font. I have bought everything to make these, but would love to have the font. Could you please email it to me. Thank You!!

  • I made the glitter balls today. Made the mistake of using regular crafting glitter. Martha Stewart glitter is so expensive at all the major craft stores to make several balls …. anyone have a good wholesale resource to share for craft supplies? Thanks!

  • MyCricut:

Sorry I don’t. I buy the Martha Stewart Glitter with a 40% or 50% off coupon from Michaels. You can use the coupons on Martha Stewart as long as it is not on sale that week.

  • Deb:

While I was searching for an SVG file to use on my Cricuit I came across you website. I am so glad that I did. • Lark Muir:

Hi…you were gracious enough to email me the font that we’re all so crazy about but after I received it…I wasn’t able to save it or access it. Obviously I did something wrong. If you wouldn’t mind could you send it one more time. I promise I’ll be more careful.
Do I need the program Sure Cuts A Lot in order to use it? I’m a beginner…can ya tell?
    Thanks for all your guidance.
    Lark Muir

  • Has anyone came across the glass ornaments having a spectrum effect around the center of the balls? Not sure what to do about that. I went to Hobby Lobby and they all seem to have that same look on all the ornaments. Also, has anyone considered or done any embellishments to add an extra touch?

  • Allison:

Hi! Just ran across your site! It’s awesome! I love those ornaments and would love to make some for Christmas gifts. Could you send me that font too? I hope I can do this as well as you. I am a very new Cricut user but I can’t wait dive right in. Thanks so much for sharing your tutorial.

I would love to have the font as well. We are having a holiday craft show as a fund raiser for Haiti and I was looking for ideas. I’m thinking this will be a great one! Rather than names, I will put Christmas words – or maybe take orders for names.

This is the best video I have seen for making these ornaments. When we were poor struggling college students we went to the thrift store and found colored ornaments that we put a little bleach inside and swirled it around and we had clear ornaments. Takes a little time but it saves money. I would also love this font if you aren’t tired of emailing it.

  • Dawndee:

I am going to try these also later today but could not find the font. If you still have it could you email it to me also? Thanks for sharing.

I so appreciate you sharing this tutorial. I bought an entire bottle of that floor polish last year for polishing altered dominoes, and have used about 1 tsp of it, ha! • Glitter girl:

  • Shirley H:

I love these and I’m ready to make them. Can you send me the font that you used- it is perfect, others are just not right. Also, how did you get the vinyl to go on the round surface without bubbling? Thanks

  • [...] The glitter ball ornaments that I made last year have been a very popular post.  The question I have been asked second to the font is, how have they held up through out the year.  I have been going through decorations today and I thought that I would post a picture.  Here they are!! [...]

  • Donna P.:

    Hi,

I would love this font too if someone could email it to me at yoonmegopark@hotmail.com

    Thanks!

  • Pam:

I was looking for a new idea for my next turn at hosting a craft night with my sisters and LOVE the glitter balls. How do people come up with the ideas of using ordinary household items like Future to add to their creativity? Brilliant! I like everyone else would love if you could email me the font.
Also, I saw an earlier post that asked how you prevent bubbling when applying vinyl to a round surface. I seem to have that difficulty and would love any helpful tip!
Thank you for sharing your creativity!
    Pam

  • Ruth S:

  • As Southern as Possible:

I have made several of these ornaments since finding your site about 6 weeks ago. Among the glass ones, I experimented with the plastic balls sold at Micheal’s. The results where amazing. Which is great, considering I made a dozen for my 2 yo son’s daycare class. I have not gotten to the name placement part, because I am unable to find the font. May I also get it emailed to me, please? Thanks for sharing your talent!

  • gilda butt:

Hi! I was searching all over for a font I liked and then I found this one on your blog…I can’t seem to find a free download for it…could you please send it to me as well? Also, did you weld the letters together or one at a time? Have you tried a different color vinyl? I like the white but I’m nervous to try red or green on a white glitter ball, your thoughts?

    Thanks!

  • Debbie:

Can you please send me the font. I have searched everywhere for it and it isn’t to be found. Thanks so much.

I too have been searching for the font you used. I made glittered ornaments the other night and had a heck of a time finding a pretty script that was thick enough to turn out nice even with bold. I was using the smaller ornaments.

  • Gina Y.:

OMG, Poor Beth! I just read each and every comment on the glitter balls looking for a solution to my script laying down across the curved ball.

I have spent two days experimenting with various adhesive solutions to no avail. I’m cutting paper (not vinyl) and using plastic ornaments (not glass). I think that’s the trick. I’m going to get some glass balls tonight to see if that works. I’m exasperated with this! I downloaded a free Disney font, cut my friend’s name out on lightweight card stock and cannot, to save my life, make all points of her name stay down on the ball! If I can get this to work, I’ll glue two black pom-poms as mouse ears and give it to her for her birthday this Friday! Yikes!

    Happy Holidays Beth!

  • Michelle:

Thank you so much for sharing this project…I would LOVE the font too!!

  • April Besse:

I am a 2nd grade teacher and I LOVE these glitter ornaments! I love this font. however, my 2nd graders don’t read their name very well in cursive…is there another chunky font like this that you could send me that will still apply really well on the glass ornaments. Also, I have never used vinyl with the cricut. Any suggestions or do you cut the same way you do with card stock? Thanks a bunch!

  • Rose Oldham:

  • CreativeRose:

Hello, I love this project. Will be making them for our tree and as give-a ways. Would you please also email me the font. I could not find it anywhere else. Thank you.

  • MyCricut:

sorry, I have only tried this ornament. If you search my blog for Kiss Cut you will get information on how to cut vinyl. It is a whole lot easier then it looks.

  • MyCricut:

I don’t think that plastic balls are the problem. I think that it is the paper. It really is not meant to curve. The only solution I could think of would be to wet a paper towel. Lay the cut paper on it and press it gently with another piece of paper towel to gently moisten it. Then put it on the ornament where you want. Let it dry, when it dries take it off and it should be the same shape as the ball. Gently put your adhesive on it and reposition it back. I have never tried it so it is just a suggestion sorry.

  • Kay Crider:

I love your blog . It is wonderful . The ornaments are gorgeous. I am retired from a stenciling , faux finish business, we often worked with vinyl stencils on curved surfaces, albeit not so small. One trick is to seal your edges with an old credit card. Sorry this may be too late. What Can MTC do that Sure cuts alot cannot?

  • Leah:

Would you send me the font used on the beautiful glitter balls? Thank you in advance.

  • Terry DeRossitt:

Really neat idea! I just want to say to remember to use a little Elmer’s glue and glue the metal top on so it won’t come apart and then fall off and break. I love anything with sparkles, and if I had my choice, I would love to glitter most everything!!!

  • Donna Porter:
