How to cut an Accuquilt cutting die on the Sizzix Big Shot or Big Kick

Hi everyone,

I am so excited to share this next video.  I like cutting fabric on my cricut but it does take time and planning.  I still love my cricut, but I love cutting fabric on my Sizzix Big Shot Express as well.  I have been wanting to make my kids each a blanket.  Something mom made them and that they will have for a long long long time. (hopefully)  A few months ago, Sizzix had some quilting dies on there site.  They said you can find them in your local crafting store…. yeah right.  I looked and looked and could not find them.  Finally I sent an e-mail to Sizzix and asked what’s up?  They said that there dies have been postponed until sometime in June.  They have in fact just released the Westminster die collection.  While I was searching though for the Sizzix quilting dies I learned about the Accuquilt fabric cutting system at Joann’s.  They use dies just like the Sizzix.  I love the dies but sure don’t want to spend another $349.00 on a machine.  I went online and searched and searched and finally came across a blogger who could answer my question.  Can you cut an Accuquilt die on the big shot or big kick?  The answer is yes and yes! Kind of, read and view on and you will see.  First, I want to give credit where credit is due, Lori Holt posted that she was able to on her blog. http://beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/2010/04/new-way-to-cut-fabric.html Yes, I finally had my answer.  I am so excited to try it.  Here is my video!  A huge thank you Lori.

I have to say that I love, love, love these dies.  They cut so well and I am so excited to use there dies.  I found the Accuquilt critter die on e-bay and I can not wait for it to come.

You can check out the dies on the Accuquilt website here. They have wider dies but you can only use the 6 inch wide or smaller on the big kick or big shot.  If you happen to own a big shot pro then you can use all the sizes.

I will be doing another video soon showing the Sizzix Westminster dies so check back soon!

  • Beth I LOVED your tutorial…..great idea of making the die thinner!!!!! I also love you soft voice….matches your blog beautifully!!!!

  • Carolyn Smith:

Thank you for confirming what I thought and hoped…. that fabric can be cut on the sizzix …. now to win the lottery in order to purchase the dies. A little bit expensive for my poctetbook…. :-)

  • MyCricut:

I found them cheaper on e-bay. There is a seller that has bin and best offer. They will take 10% off there bin price. Free shipping. You save 10 to 15 dollars off per die depending on the one you want.

  • and – surprisingly enough – I have used my AccuQUilt GO – to emboss w/ the Cuttlebug embossing folders – and i’m getting ready to try the sizzix dies … you just have to figure out the correct depth – easy enough to do !!!

  • sj:

    Yippe
I thought we could do that & now you have confirmed it. I am going to rush to order accuquilt die for my big kick. I have the Sizzix strip cutter & I love it.
    thanks,
    SJ
